Our Story
The Haakaa story began in 2016 when our founder, Natalie, was struggling to breastfeed her newborn son. As a first-time mum, Natalie found breastfeeding to be more challenging than she had expected. She struggled with issues like engorgement, oversupply, and balancing breastfeeding with normal daily activities.
While researching solutions, Natalie discovered that traditional breast pumps were often ineffective, difficult to use, and expensive. She realized there must be a better way. Natalie began designing a simple, affordable breast pump that would be gentle, easy to use, and fit seamlessly into a mother’s life.
After months of design and testing, the original Haakaa manual breast pump was born. Made from super soft, 100% food-grade silicone, the pump provided effective suction through its unique shape and uses natural suction (no batteries/power required). The simple, open design allowed mums to pump hands-free on one side while baby fed from the other.
The response from breastfeeding mothers was tremendous. The Haakaa pump made their breastfeeding journey easier and helped them reach their feeding goals. Natalie knew she had created something truly helpful for mums.
